GREAT! Idea: If You Are 50 or Older in 2011; Your Fun is Free – All Year Long – with a Paid Child Admission – When You Show Your AARP Card

December 10, 2010 – Atlanta, GA USA – This is the 9th in a series of 10 theoretical examples of GREAT! ideation to help Six Flags Theme Parks* increase Sponsorship revenue – and celebrate the 50th birthday of Six Flags fun in 2011.

GREAT! Concept:

  • To celebrate Six Flags 50th birthday – in 2011 – if you are 50 or older in 2011 – your fun is free at any Six Flags all year long with a paid child admission – when you show your AARP membership card. Kick off with AARP Grand Parents Week (Day? Weekend? Month?)

Benefits to Six Flags:

  • New Sponsor category (50+) and new Sponsor
  • AARP (Anyone 50 or older can join AARP for $16/year) – 3rd Party Sponsor opportunity (e.g. The Hartford insurance for people 50 and older: an AARP Sponsor)
  • Since ages 50+ represent just 4% of attendance (ages 50 to 64 = 3%
  • and 65+ = 1%), this special offer may:

–  increase the market share 50+ adults (who spend $$$ on grandchildren)
–  increase paid children tickets by grandparents (extra visits to Six Flags)
–  efficiently target 50+ market within the AARP communication tools

Benefits to AARP:

  • Added value ($45 per visit) for AARP membership in 2011 (possibly future years)
  • Help increase membership: particularly just turned 50-year-old/AARP eligible
  • Promotes: fun, activity with grandchild, exercise, people engagement
  • Benefit for 50+ Latinos: particularly in Mexico City, San Antonio, Dallas and LA
  • Multi-Generational
  • Tie-in to pro-social events: Walk With Grandchildren in the Walk In The Park to benefit Cure Kids Cancer
  • Opportunity to create a pro-social event specifically for Grandparents and their grandchildren

Ideally:

  • Sponsorship marketing takes place within AARP: magazine, bulletin, eNewsletter, website (including blog, community), TV and radio, social media (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube) and other membership communications tools (such as join now and receive this new benefit now through 12/31/12.
